Unemployment rates in Gaza have recently been reported as nearing 60 percent and attributed to the blockade of twelve years. This has been a direct cause for a dependence of over a million refugees of Palestine to be dependent on the United Nations for food and clean water.
In time for the Suhūr meal, the UNRWA received a donation that enabled them to feed nearly nine-thousand Palestine refugee families in Gaza. The bountiful contribution of 300,000 USD from the came from IRUSA. Known as the Islamic Relief USA, the organization has long been partnered with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees.
There are refugees in the area that have not had employment for over three years. Many of the families cannot afford food and the UNRWA and IRUSA really came through at this important time.
The UNRWA was established in 1949 and is charged with the protection and aiding over five million Palestine refugees. This covers the West Bank, Lebanon and Jordan. The organization is entirely dependent on generous, independent contributions. Right now, the organization continually works with massive shortfalls in funding. The member states of the United Nations should be encouraged to be as attentive to UNRWAs budget as possible. The organization is also charged with providing health care, education, and infrastructure to the refugees.
Donations like the one made by IRUSA actively and immediately change lives, protect lives and strengthen the potential for positive outcomes. Hopefully, others will follow the continuous example set by IRUSA.
This type of generosity is what IRUSA has been providing since 1993. It currently spans Europe, the United States, Latin America, Asia, and the Middle East. The programs that it offers directly include initiatives to assist orphans, health care, and education. The goal of IRUSA in the large scope is to lessen global poverty. This is no small task, and it cannot be done alone. As a shining example of generosity and simply, humans being decent to other humans, the UNRWA has thanked IRUSA for continuing support to the Palestine refugees.
