On September 28, 2007, Lance Rutter delivered a lecture entitled "The City that Works" to an audience of 250 at Bradley University. The lecture was part of a series conducted by Bradley's Slane College of Communication and Fine Arts called "Visual Visionaries." Rutter stressed the importance of creating a perception of the design industry, particularly in the Midwest, that is reflective of more meaningful and valuable attributes than "hard-working." "While working hard is certainly laudable," Rutter says, "I've come to take exception to the idea that I am defined solely as part of a 'city that works.' What about the city that thinks, creates, speaks, or fights?" Rutter's message was accompanied by a presentation of various design projects which Tanagram has completed with national and international clients in the areas of interaction and graphic design.
